Setting up Email on your Smartphone

Have you gotten a new smartphone that you need to setup with your TCC email?  Hopefully this blog post helps.

Setting up Email on today’s devices can be easy– or tricky.  Some devices use handy “setup wizards” to walk you through the steps of setting up your Email, but not all devices.  Some devices require you to ask someone for help, search the Internet for instructions or play with it until you figure it out yourself.  This is actually how a lot of tech devices are.  They don’t include much for instructions.  While this blog post won’t cover every device or even every step, it will *hopefully* provide you enough instruction to set your Email up or at least give you direction on where to turn next.

Apple iPhone:

Apple products are very popular and the steps are the same in all the latest iPhones and iPads.  Open Settings, touch Accounts and Passwords, touch Mail Accounts, touch Add New, touch Mail Account.  For type of Mail account, choose “Other.”  Type in your information (see below).

Android/Samsung:

Samsung devices also very popular but many phones on the Android platform will use the same steps for setting up Email.  Open the “Apps” icon, touch Mail, touch Add New Account.  Enter your Email address and password and touch Manual Setup in the bottom left.  Type in your information (see below).

Other Brands/Help:

If you have a different brand/model of phone or your iPhone or Galaxy is a little older and do not use the current steps, here are some ideas for finding the right instructions for your device.  Open a web browser and type “setting up email on _______” (your phone brand/model) in the search box to find instructions.  You can also go to YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/) and search for Email setup instructions for your phone so you can watch a video of someone walking you through the setup.  One note: when searching for website or video instructions, you might have to try a couple of the results to find instructions that matches your phone.  A TCC account is an “Other” account — meaning our settings will need to be entered manually.

Information for TCC Email:

Use the following information to setup your account.  Note: not all information presented below may be needed.

  • Name:  Your name (this goes on Emails you send)
  • Email Address: Your TCC email address (username@tcc.coop)
  • Description: TCC (only important if you set up multiple accounts on your device)
  • Mail Type:  IMAP (not POP3)
  • Incoming Server: mail.tcc.coop
  • Username: your TCC username/login (the part in front of @)
  • Password: your TCC password (contact TCC if you need this)
  • SSL:  No
  • Port: 143
  • Outgoing Server: mail.tcc.coop
  • Username: your TCC username/login (the part in front of @)
  • Password: your TCC password (contact TCC if you need this)
  • SSL:  No
  • Port: 587 (can also use 25 if 587 doesn’t work)
